Frequently asked questions

Why must I test the pool first?
Every calculator on this site works from the numbers you enter. A recent, accurate water test — salt level, free chlorine, pH, and alkalinity where relevant — is what makes the estimated dosage useful. Without a real test, the result is only a guess.
Can I use another brand with these calculators?
No. Each calculator is calibrated only for the named Hydro One product — its specific strength, concentration or tablet size. Using the result with a different brand or formulation can lead to under-dosing, over-dosing, or an unsafe combination of chemicals.
Why must chemicals be added separately?
Mixing different pool chemicals together — even two chemicals that are each safe on their own — can cause a dangerous reaction. Always add one product at a time, following that product's own instructions.
Why do I need to re-test?
Chemicals need time to circulate and take effect. Re-testing after the stated monitoring period tells you whether you've reached your target, or whether a further, smaller dose is needed — rather than guessing and risking over-dosing.
What should I do when my reading is unusual?
If a test result looks unusually high, low, or outside the calculator's normal range, don't dose from that reading alone. Re-test to confirm it, and contact Hydro One Pool Support before adding any chemical.
How can I purchase the correct Hydro One chemical?
Contact Hydro One Pool Support by phone or WhatsApp, and the team can confirm the right product and help arrange purchase. This site does not sell chemicals directly.
